Breast cancer model out of danger

Model Niffat Lokosang is out of danger after receiving treatment for a condition that can cause cancer.

The 28-year-old was in December last year diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia, a non-cancerous tumour that grows in the brain and causes the risk of breast cancer when treatment is delayed.

Doctors expressed fears that Lokosang was at a higher risk of the tumour becoming cancerous due to a breast leakage she had been experiencing. They recommended that she seeks treatment in South Africa, but she could not raise the required K2 million, prompting the stakeholders’ action.

In an interview upon returning from South Africa, she said further tests have revealed that she is free from the danger.

“I travelled last week and came back Friday. I got my results today [Wednesday]. They are good and I should be well as I continue with the medication. The money raised through the show and some donations was used for my ticket and food. My parents paid for accommodation and the hospital bill.

“The tumour is visible at 0.5 centimetres which is more likely that it is suppressing with the medication I have been taking. It should clear out as I go along and should be completely well after. My body is responding well to the medication,” she said.

A fundraising initiative under the Fashion United Against Breast Cancer raised K300 000.
