Bridge project delay irks Mangochi chiefs

Chiefs from Mvumba Ward in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Nankumba in Mangochi have expressed concern over the delay in constructing Kabudira Bridge.

They said, among other problems, it prevents people of the area from accessing medical services on time.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of a field monitoring visit National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust organised in the area on Saturday, group village head (GVH) Saidi Matola said the people feel like they are foreigners in their own country.

“We feel segregated by our own government and duty-bearers. The bridge connects us to places where we access essential services,” said Mvumba.

Village head (VH) Matungululu said the situation puts in awkward situation children that go to Kasinje Primary School in Ntcheu which is nearer and the road network is good.

Councillor of the area, Shadreck Chibondo, said the work has stalled because of insufficient funds.

“But let me assure the people that the  construction of the bridge will start soon. We will also embark on a health facility to provide people with medical services within reach,” he said. n
