Nyasa Big Bullets say they are ready to fulfill matches this week after being exempted from TNM Super League matches last week due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

The People’s Team suspended their training last week after nine of their players tested Covid-19 positive, leading to the postponement of their match against arch-rivals Mighty Wanderers

But in an interview yesterday, the TNM Super League champions’ chief administration officer Albert Chigoga said they are ready to resume playing should the be allocated a fixture

He said the team’s training will resume today with only those that tested negative.

Bullets training was suspended due to Covid-19 positive cases

“But they will have to be screened thoroughly by our team doctor before they can resume training,” said Chigoga.

He also said the first group to have tested positive, namely players Hassan Kajoke, Ernest Kakhobwe and Stanley Billiat as well as team manager James Chilapondwa and players’ welfare officer Dalitso Chikwembani underwent re-tests yesterday and the results are expected this morning.

“The second group will undergo re-tests on Wednesday and those that will test negative will be allowed to resume training.

“So, even if the results for the second group will only be known on Thursday, we are optimistic that we can still play,” Chigoga said.

The second group  comprised six players, namely Mike Mkwate, Henry Kabichi, Nelson Kangunje, McFallen Ngwira, Luke Chima and Richard Chimbamba as well as the team’s Covid-19 desk officer Yamikani Magombo.

After earlier insisting that the match would go ahead, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) softened up and postponed the Blantyre derby “based on strong medical advice”.

Sulom fixtures secretary Patrick Chisale yesterday said they will need to follow up on the Covid-19 situation in Bullets camp.

“Otherwise, the 10-day stipulated period for isolation ends Thursday and according to the fixture, they are supposed to host Kamuzu Barracks this Saturday,” he said.
