BT derby gate fees up

Fans will dig deeper into their pockets to watch this Saturday’s TNM Super League Blantyre derby between Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers following a 50 percent hike.

On Monday, the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) general secretary Williams Banda confirmed the hike of the Kamuzu Stadium meeting.

“We already said that the gate charges for games will vary depending on the profile of matches, hence this increase,” Banda said.

The game’s entrance fee is now pegged at K500 (about $1.10), K1 000 (about $2.38), K2 000 (about $4.76) and K5 000 (about $11) for open terraces, MBC Stand, Covered Stand and VIP Stand respectively.

Ordinary games at the giant arena usually sell at K200 (about $0.47), K500, K1 000 and K2 000 for the respective stands. This is the second derby for the new season following Silver Strikers’ 1-0 beating of Civo United last Sunday in Lilongwe.

Sulom has since asked Bullets and Wanderers to outsource gate management for the game lest it be shifted to another venue.

Bullets and Wanderers fans have put up strong resistance to outsource games.
