Blantyre United beat Civo 2-0 in the TNM Super League second round to register a “historic and remarkable” victory.

Since the team was promoted to the Super League three seasons ago, it had never beaten Civo in any competition.

During the Monday game played at Balaka Stadium, United, who dominated in both halves with their fast and passing game, scored through Sparrow Msowoya and Brown Mizeyi in the first-half.

Kananji said his heart has always been restless as most of the games against Civo ended in draws.

“I am now delighted that we have beaten Civo. We have beaten all the big teams in the country such as Big Bullets, Mighty Wanderers, but when it came to Civo, the games always ended in a stalemate. It was my prayer that one day we should beat them and it has happened,” said Kananji.

Msowoya easily guided the ball into the net in the 16th minute after Civo goalkeeper Onani Seengwa fumbled Mizeyi’s cross. Mizeyi extended United’s lead in the 33rd minute when he drove home a free-kick taken from outside the box.

Civo coach Alex Masanjala conceded defeat saying his boys lost too many balls in the middle.

“We created many chances, but we were blunt upfront and our supply engine was not good at all,” he said.
