Nyasa Big Bullets have appointed former Football Association of Malawi  general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda as chief executive officer effective May 1.

In a statement on Sunday, Bullets said he has replaced Escort Chinula and will work on full-time basis.

Reads the statement in part: “Nyasa Big Bullets wishes to announce the appointment of Mr Suzgo Nyirenda as the new chief executive officer (CEO). An experienced administrator, Mr Nyirenda was until recently deputy general secretary and competition manager for Council for Southern Africa Football Associations [Cosafa].”

Efforts to talk to the Nyirenda were unsuccessful, but inside sources confided in The Nation that he held a meeting with top Bullets officials yesterday in Blantyre.

However, in April last year he was quoted as having said he was considering taking up local football position if an opportunity arose.

Nyirenda, who was based in South Africa serving Cosafa as deputy chief executive officer, said he was satisfied with his work at the regional body.

“After putting all systems in place in competitions and administration at Cosafa, I am now contemplating coming back home to practise what I have learnt at Cosafa. I feel I have contributed fully at the zonal level. I have added value to the management of competitions and administration in the region. It is now time to share knowledge gained with my kinsmen,” he was quoted as having said.
