Bullets awards shock Fodya

Big Bullets left-back Yamikani Fodya says it was a pleasant suprise to be named Player of the Year during his club’s awards on Thursday.

The end-of-the-year party and awards, which sports promotion firm Sports Promo organised in conjunction with team’s management at the Bullets Club House in Mandala, Blantyre, saw the overlapping defender winning both the Best Defender and Player of the Year awards that came with K20 000 prize apiece.

Bullets supporters nominated Fodya for the Player of the Year accolade alongside TNM Super League joint top scorer Chiukepo Msowoya, midfielder McFarlane Mgwira and Jaffalie Chande, goalkeeper Chimwemwe Kumkwawa.

“I really cannot believe I have won this most prestigious accolade in a star-studded club like Bullets. However, I thank God for choosing me to be the recipient of this award because I do not really believe I played much better than the others,” said Fodya.

Msowoya, who is Super League joint top-scorer on 14 goals, found solace in grabbing Bullets’ Best Striker award while Chande, who also plays effortlessly as a striker, emerged as the Best Midfielder.

Kumkwawa, Ngwira and Henry Kabichi were named as Best Goalkeeper, Most Improved Player and Most Disciplined Player, respectively.

George Wonderson, the Bullets diehard behind wamkaka tradition won the Supporter of the Year award.

Speaking during the award presentation ceremony, Bullets captain Fischer Kondowe urged the winners to work harder next season.

Bullets supporters’ chairperson Stone Mwamadi pleaded with the players not to indulge in promiscuity and irresponsible drinking during the season break so as to return into the pitch stronger. n
