Bullets block Nyirenda’s move

Big Bullets have instructed FAM not to issue defender George Nyirenda’s international transfer certificate (ITC) despite the club not having a written contract with the player.

According to Zimbabwean club Caps United director Twine Phiri, their efforts to get Nyirenda’s ITC have not materialised due to the player’s disagreement with Bullets.

“We had planned to feature him in a league match against Chicken Inn on Saturday, but we failed to get his ITC from Malawi FA through Zifa (Zimbabwe Football Association),” said Phiri.

Bullets general secretary Harold Fote confirmed asking FAM not to issue Nyirenda’s clearance until Bullets sort out one or two things with Caps.

“Of course, we might not have a written contract with the player, but he has an implied contract in that we were paying him and all we want is for Caps to consider giving us a reasonable development fee because for the player to reach the level he is, we made a considerable investment.

“Let me also make it clear that we are not trying to block him. We just want fairness to prevail. We, therefore, expect Caps to approach us so that we can sort out this issue once and for all,” said Fote.

However, Nyirenda yesterday expressed disappointment with Bullets’ stand.

“I do not have a contract with them. Besides that, they did not pay me for two months at the start of the season, so I fail to understand what they mean when they say I had an implied contract.

“I am frustrated because I am afraid this could lead to Caps cancelling the contract. I am just appealing to Bullets to hear my plea,” said Nyirenda from Zimbabwe’s capital Harare at the weekend.

FAM-Fifa transfer matching system (TMS) manager Casper Jangale, who is handling the issue, could not be reached for comment.
