Bullets face third Army side

Nyasa Big Bullets face Mafco at Chitowe Stadium this afternoon in the defending champions’ third game of the 2016 TNM Super League season against Malawi Defence Force side.

Just like in matches against Moyale Barracks and Red Lions, the defending champions will predictably face a stern physical battle which Army teams are known for.

Bullets and Mafco have not been constant rivals, but last season proved that adversity in football can erupt any time.

Both sides were in the title chase and could not see each other eye to eye. Such memories can make this match lively and competitive.

Bullets have had a relatively slow start to their title defence. Held to a goalless draw against Moyale in the first match, Bullets went on to beat Red Lions 2-1.

The People’s Team coach Franco Ndawa said he is targeting another win to consolidate their title ambitions.

But he asked Mafco not to play as though they are in a battlefield.

So far in this campaign Mafco have beaten Mzuzu University (Mzuni) 1-0 and drawn 2-2 with Super League returnees Dwangwa United.

The army team’s coach Thomas Maloya said Bullets should brace for tough time at the usually hot Chitowe ground.

Last season Bullets recorded 1-0 margin home and away wins from the Salima based soldiers.

If Bullets can boost of the ruthless attackers in Chiukepo Msowoya and Muhammad Sulumba, Mafco would mention Richard Mbulu and Chikondi Maloya who have already opened their goal account this season.

Meanwhile, Tigers, who lost to table toppers Blue Eagles, will be hoping to recapture the toughness sunk Silver Strikers over a fortnight ago, when they visit Civo United in Lilongwe.

Tigers’ team manager Robin Alufandika said his troops have cast the memories of the 1-0 at the back of their mind to focus on today’s game.

Civo have had its own setbacks too. A 2-1 home loss to city rivals Silver Strikers was as demoralising for a team coached by charismatic Milias Jegwe Pofera.

“Losing is always unwanted aspect when you have ambitions to do well,” he said.

In other matches this afternoon, leaders Blue Eagles host Red Lions, Moyale face rockies Max Bullets at Mzuzu Stadium while Kamuzu Barracks play Wizards at Civo stadium. n
