Bullet’s ‘Iron Lady’ quits
Nyasa Big Bullets general secretary (GS) Titha Mandiza on Tuesday became the third executive committee member to quit amid the fallout that has rocked the People’s Team.
Mandiza, who was dubbed ‘Iron Lady’, by some sections within the team because of her vocal stance, confirmed having resigned.
“I should not be seen as if I am clinging to the position. It is sad that while some people within the executive were trying to question some unfortunate decisions for the good of the team, they were being labelled as ‘rebels.’
“Things cannot work when some are pulling while others are pushing. But the truth will one day come out. Unfortunately, it will be a bit too late,” she said.
And part of her resignation letter addressed to the team’s board of trustees chairperson James Busile reads: “After much thought and consideration, I have decided not to continue as GS of Nyasa Big Bullets. I want to thank you for providing me an opportunity to serve the team.”
Her resignation comes days after treasurer Noel Lipipa and vice-chairperson Sadiki Malinga also threw in the towel.
Busile and trustees’ GS Jim Kalua could not be reached for comment yesterday, but the board’s vice-chairperson Fred Kwacha expressed ignorance on the development.
“I am hearing it from you, I will have to check with my colleagues,” he said.
The resignation of Mandiza means the majority of the legitimate executive committee that was duly elected during the club’s 2014 elective general assembly is no longer in office.
They include former chairperson Kondi Msungama, Malinga, Harold Fote, Mandiza, Lipipa, Dan Mbebuwa, Isaac Jomo Osman (ex supporters committee chairperson), Bize Kalozeni, Morson Magombo and Brian Ligomeka.
Asked then if the current leadership led by Samuel Chilunga is still legitimate to run the operations of the club, Kwacha said: “Let me not comment on that.”
Msungama on Tuesday blamed the current situation on interference by other sections of the club such as supporters’ committee and trustees.
“As long as the trustees and supporters committee continue to interfere in the operations of the executive committee, there will never be sanity. Everyone is supposed to play their role.
“We also do not respect the constitution. Like when I resigned, Malinga was supposed to take over, but the supporters committee and trustees just hand-picked someone. There can never be a good working relationship in that way. It is time we learnt from Be Forward Wanderers in the way they operate,” he said.
