Bullets lead TNM Super League

Big Bullets on Saturday dislodged Red Lions at the top of the TNM Super League when they beat Bvumbwe Research 2-0 at the Zomba Community Centre ground.

Following the win, Bullets now have 37 points from 19 games.

However, Lions who are second with 35 points from 18 games, have a chance to reclaim the top position when they face Blantyre United at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo this (Sunday) afternoon.

Bullets midfield workhorse James ‘Terminator’ Chilapondwa claimed the first goal from the penalty spot in the 25th minute.

The spot-kick was awarded after one of the Bvumbwe defenders had handled in the goal area. However, the sky fell on Chilapondwa 13 minutes later when he was shown the red card by referee Ben Chongwa for foul language. He had earlier on been shown a yellow card.

Bullets’ man-of-the-moment Gabadinho Mhango struck the second in the 87th minute.

He connected home captain Fischer ‘Anong’a’ Kondowe’s cross from the right-flank to send Bullets fans into frenzy who chanted: “Siife koma Gabadinho!”

Following the loss, Bvumbwe are still second from the bottom of the 15-team league with 15 points from 20 games.

Bullets coach Eddingtone Ng’onamo hailed his charges for the win, saying it keeps them in contention for the league title.

“I am happy that we have recovered from the loss against Blue Eagles and we will try to do well in our remaining games,” said Ng’onamo.
