Big Bullets FC has said although it is still operating from its club house, located at Mandala in Blantyre, it is not running any income-generating activities at the premises.

The club’s general secretary Harold Fote said the facility was repossessed by the owner, just after the team’s current leadership was ushered into office, due to some logistical hitches.

“At the moment we are no longer operating any business at the club house such as the bar because there were some outstanding issues that needed to be addressed.

“However, the landlord has been generous to us in that he allowed us to use two of the rooms for our day-to-day operations free of charge. It is also our meeting point and the team bus is still kept there,” said Fote.

He also claimed that they are planning to reopen the bar that is currently being run by the owner of the premises as well as other facilities at the start of next season.

“We want to refurbish it into a fully-fledged club house and we are also planning to ask the owner to consider becoming a shareholder,” he said.

Despite its rich success, for over 40 years, the People’s Team operated without a home until 2012 when the Malinda Chinyama and Higger Mkandawire-led executive committee, lived up to its word and opened the club house as one way of generating income for the then financially-struggling club.

Income-generating activities that included a bar, restaurant and live-band performances were introduced. However, sometime last year, Blantyre City Council ordered the club to stop organising live band shows because it is located in a residential area.
