Nyasa Big Bullets say the 2021 TNM Super League was the toughest for the defending champions, despite clinching the 14th ttile with a game to spare
The People’s team won the title yesterday following Mighty Wanderers’ 3-1 loss to Blue eagles at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Bullets top the table with 59 points going into their last match against Karonga United .
Both second-placed Silver Strikers whoc have 55 points and third-placed Wanderers who have 54 points cannot leapfrog the People’s Team.
But Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga said they had to sweat blood to defend the title this season.
He said: “We are very pleased that finally we are champions of 2021 TNM Super League. The pressure was mounting on us in the run in of games.
“Doubters were beginning to write us off, but it has finally proven that one has to be resilient and mentally strong to be a champion. We thank God for retaining the title.”
Chigoga, however, said they will esnure they beat Karonga United in their last fixture to finish on a high note.
He said: “We will not sit on our laurels and think it is a walk in the park.”
Bullets’ victory over Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday was the first in four matches after a draw against Mafco and a loss to Wanderers in the Blantyre derby in the league and a loss to AmaZulu FC in CAF Champions League.
Bullets head coach Callisto Pasuwa said he never gave up hope despite the disappointing results.
He said: “Remember, I am one person who always said I will not rest until the last game. It has been very tough for us.”
Bullets’ title campaign went sideways after a draw against Mafco and a loss to Wanderers.
Wanderers’ victory over Ekwendeni Hammers on Thursday piled more pressure on the two top sides as the all the three teams now headed into the last two fixtures with just a point separating them.
With both Wanderers and Silver in contetion for the title, it meant they had to win all their remaining games to ensure they defend ther title.
However, the other two contenders ended up dropping points when it mattered most to win their last but one games to put pressure on Bullets.
