Visiting  Big Bullets on Saturday survived a determined effort from Super League rookies Mponela United to salvage a point in a thrilling game at Silver Stadium.

Cheered by ganyu fans, Mponela led on two occasions, but Bullets fought back to level the scores.

Bullets were the first to create a clear chance from a set-piece. An Ian Chinyama free-kick in the third minute was parriedaway by Mponela goalkeeper Charles Chipeta, but Dalitso Sailesi failed to score from the rebound with a helpless Chipeta lying on the pitch.

Later, Mponela’s Mude Jeffrey scored from the spot-kick after Gerald Mwanza was fouled by a Bullets defender.

However, the lead was short-lived as Diverson Mlozi scored few minutes later. Yamikani Fodya received a pass fromChimango Kayira and picked up an advancing Mlozi in the opponents’ half. The latter easily slotted the ball past Chipeta to make it 1-1.

The Dowa-based side got the second goal in injury time of the first half. Jack Chiona made a sole run on the left wing and saw an out of position Swadick Sanudi in Bullets goals. He released a thunderous drive that hit the far post.

Bullets came in the second half with new ideas. They substituted Fodya for Heston Munthali and Chinyama for striker LawsonChilewe.

The move added more offence in Bullets camp and the visitors relentlessly battled Mponela defence and got a deservedequaliser in the 58th minute.

In Blantyre, Moyale Barracks frustrated Azam Tigers to a 1-1 draw at Kamuzu Stadium, thereby denying Kau Kau an opportunity to go second in the TNM Super League.

The action worth the watch on this cloudy afternoon only lasted for the opening 10 minutes when Lawrence Milanzi put the Tigers ahead with a coolly taken penalty that resulted from Moyale’s reckless challenge on the third minute.

Seven minutes later, the Mzuzu soldiers were handed a lifeline when Tigers’ Bonda Mpinganjira  scored past his own goalkeeper Thom Kalavina.
