Facing Blue Eagles: Bullets

Big Bullets TNM Super League title ambitions might be determined this week as they face Blue Eagles today at Nankhaka in Area 30, Lilongwe and Kamuzu Barracks tomorrow in Dedza.

If they win the two assignments and their closest rivals Moyale falter against Silver Strikers, they will have an unassailable lead.

Bullets currently top the table with 47 points from 22 games, three ahead of Moyale who will be facing reigning champions Silver Strikers tomorrow in another potentially explosive fixture.

Eagles on the other hand, are third with 40 points from 21 games.

Of interest about today’s assignment is that just like Bullets, Eagles too have realistic chances of winning the title. Seven points separate the two sides and a win for Eagles , who have a game in hand, will mean the gap closed to four points.

When the two sides met in the first-round, the match ended 1-1, meaning on paper the two teams are at par.

Bullets coach Elia Kananji said their aim is to bag full points.

“If we are serious about maintaining our title hopes then we cannot afford to drop points. It is a must that we should win both games, especially against Eagles, once we do that then we’ll be in the comfort zone,” said kananji.

Eagles coach De Klerk Msakakuona said he has the formula to defeat Bullets.

“It will be like a cup final for us. We can’t afford to lose this game as it will mean our title fight is over. We will give everything to win the match. It will be a very tough match because Bullets are in good form,” said Msakakuwona.

Msakauwona is expected to bank on the services of Flames internationals, Philip Masiye and Micium Mhone.

Kamuzu Barracks (KB) again on Sunday will be no pushover as they are fighting relegation.

KB, lying fourth from the bottom, are in danger of relegation and will want to win against Bullets so as to avoid being overtaken by Karonga United.

KB are set to frustrate Bullets title ambition.

“A lot is at stake and we must win this assignment. We have worked hard in all departments and we think we have managed to cover loopholes.” said assistant coach Kenwood Nkhoma.

Bullets hopes lie in the fact that goals have been coming from all departments. Even at the time when the team’s main strikers Jimmy Zakazaka and Mussa Manyenje were failing to score.

Zakazaka will be hoping to start from where he stopped last weekend when he grabbed a doule in the 4-1 humiliation of Chikwawa United.

In other games slated for this afternoon, Mighty Wanderers are hoping to continue with their revival when they face relegation-threatened Blantyre United in Balaka.

The Nomads won their past two games against Civo United (1-0) and red Lions (2-1).

Reiging champions Silver Strikers take on Mafco at Chitowe in Dwangwa.
