Bullets to parade Presidential Cup in Blantyre

Presidential Cup champions Big Bullets got a rapturous welcome in Blantyre after their successful tour of duty in the capital city on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the team’s general secretary Higger Mkandawire said they will parade the Presidential Cup in the commercial city Monday morning.

On Sunday, over 1 500 delirious fans travelled to Zalewa Roadblock from Blantyre to give their team a hearty welcome following their 1-0 victory over Moyale Barracks that ended their 10-year cup drought.

Other fans anxiously waited for the team at Kandodo Corner Shop in Blantyre where the team arrived at around 6pm.

It took the victorious Bullets eight hours to reach Blantyre from Lilongwe as fans forced their bus to stop at some trading centres to celebrate.

One of the fans who travelled to Zalewa, Robert ‘Robbie Tembo, said: “The win has given me a reason to be happy and that is why I travelled all the way from Blantyre to give the players a deserved hero’s welcome.”

According to Mkandawire, the BB bus left Lilongwe at around 10am with some enthusiastic fans riding on its top all the way to Dedza.

On Wednesday’s victory parade, Mkandawire said it is scheduled to start at 9am at Mandala Clubhouse.

“From Mandala, the parade will go to Ndirande then Chilomoni then to Zingwangwa and Chilobwe before going to Mbayani then Lunzu. From Lunzu, we will proceed to Bangwe, then Kachere and if time allows, we will reach Bvumbwe in Thyolo so that the fans can get the glimpse of the cup,” he said.

Mkandawire also said fans will have a chance to pose with the cup and the players at a fee, which will be part of their fund-raising drive.
