Bullets up against Bullets in FDH Bank Cup

Nyasa Big Bullets have been drawn against their reserve side in the FDH Cup round of 32 following a draw held yesterday at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.

Their rivals Mighty Wanderers are up against their bogey side Karonga United.

The match between Wanderers and Karonga promises fireworks as they clash for the third time this season.

Chimchere (L) and FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda conduct the draw yesterday

Interestingly, Karonga won both matches with a 2-0 score line in the TNM Super League first and second round to complete a double routing of the Blantyre-based giants.

The match between the two sides is one of the three involving all TNM Super League sides.

In the other two fixtures, Mzuzu Warriors face Ntopwa while TN Stars take on Moyale Barracks.

Ntopwa FC patron Jomo Osman said in an interview after the draw that the cup gives his financially struggling outfit a chance to raise funds.

“Right now we are focusing on how to win this K25 million top prize,” he said.

The draw saw eight  top teams at the end of the TNM Super League first round seeded, meaning they will not face each other.

Silver Strikers have been paired against Immigration FC while their Capital City rivals Civil Service United face Sable Farming.

Football Association of Malawi competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka said the draw has produced some interesting fixtures.

“We have seen that some Super League clubs will play each other meaning at least three of them will not make it to the round of 16.

“Some regional teams will also face each other in round of 32. This also means we are assured that a couple of them will make it to the round of 16.”

The round of 32 matches will kick off on June 26.

Zakazaka said: “The competitions subcommittee will now meet to decide the fixtures and determine the date, kick off time and the venue.”

FDH marketing manager Ronald Chimchere said the sponsors are excited with the fixtures following the draw.

He said: “The journey has been good so far. Our expectations are that it will be a competitive round of 32.

“We have seen that the competition was high at regional level. We have seen some good talent.

“Now that Super League teams are joining the cup in round of 32, we know the competition will even be higher.”
