Jaco Burger on Saturday defied the odds to break the Nchalo golf record when he amassed a brilliant score of 45 points to emerge triumphant in the Total Malawi Invitational Golf Tournament at Nchalo Sports Club in Chikwawa.
Played on individual stableford format, the tournament attracted 72 golfers.
And it couldn’t have been more sweeter for Burger as the golf captain John Mphande announced a return ticket to South Africa as his prize in the presence of his source of inspiration— his wife Maretha.
Asked on whether he expected to win, the golfer’s face lit up and said: “Definitely. Nothing went wrong right from the first hole. I hit the ball well [and it was ending up where I was aiming.”
