Burglary and theft offences have earned Paul Kachala, 20, a nine-year jail term.

Ntchisi Police spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha on Tuesday said the Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate’s Court found Kachala guilty on Friday.

He said State prosecutor Peter Njiragoma told the court that Kachala on March 19 2012 broke into the house of Frank Jimu at Sanza Village, Traditional Authority Kalumo in the district and stole assorted items worth K12 800 (about $77).

“The complainant went [out] and when he came back at around 11pm, he noticed that the front window of the house was wide open and various items such as bed-sheets, blankets and a radio were stolen,” he said.

In his ruling, magistrate Alex Kantiki said such cases are on the increase in the district; hence, the custodial sentence.

Kachala comes from Sanza Village, T/A Kalumo in the district.
