Bvumbwe can seal SRFL title

Coach Bob Mpinganjira and his free-scoring Bvumbwe Research can seal an early TNM Super League promotion with a win today if second-placed Nchalo United lose their match.

On 73 points from 32 games in the Southern Region Football League (SRFL), Bvumbwe can go four points clear if they beat third-placed Evirom at Kamuzu Stadium; and in the unlikely event that Nchalo suffer a home loss against Chanco on Friday.

Nchalo have 72 points from 32 games and wind up their season with a home assignment against BNC Produsak on Sunday.

Victories for the two title contenders today will simply restore the one-point gap, thereby drawing the championship race down to the wire. Bvumbwe wrap up the season in welcoming sixth-placed Changalume Barracks FC on Sunday.

After seeing off BNC on Tuesday, Mpinganjira refused to be carried away by the result while hoping that playing three games in six days will not take its toll on his boys.

“It is not in the bag yet. We still have to win both remaining games. After staying out of action for three weeks, the boys are a little bit rusty. But it seems something good can happen. It is a hectic week for us and we have to adapt,” said the former MTL Wanderers deputy coach.

The SRFL Premier Division has 18 teams and the champion will join Kamuzu Barracks from the Centre and Kabwafu from the North into the Super League.
