There was pomp and glamour at a recent meeting of Bwaila Rotary Club in Lilongwe as it received two young women as members.

The Maliseni sisters, Victoria, 18, and Chikondi, 25, were officially inducted as Rotarians at Crossroads Hotel.

An excited president of the club, Gift Dula, said the club needs more members to implement its projects.

“We are growing and it’s exciting. We have a lot of projects and they are getting bigger and as such we need more members,” said Dula.

The sisters were equally excited. They said they were curious to know more about the club.

“I want to join the development projects that the club has and reach out to people. Again, we want to set an example to fellow women,” said Victoria in an interview.

During the function, Dr Ibrahim Phiri received the Paul Harris Award which is given to members who have donated more than $1 000 [about K420 000] to the club.
