Bwaila Rotary Club charity golf raises K4m

Bwaila Rotary Club Charity Golf Tournament, which took place at the Lilongwe Golf Golf Club (LGC) on Saturday, has raised K4 million.

The club’s presidentVijay Mittal thanked golfers and companies that helped towards the cause.

“The golf tournament was organised to raise funds for needy students in various schools. We have Tiphunzire Fund which we use to pay fees for needy students. There are deserving students out there who cannot realise their dreams because they cannot afford school fees. The idea is about helping deserving students achieve their dream, “ he said.

LGC captain Medson Roka said they were happy and honoured to partner Bwaila Rotary Club in the charity project.

“We all have responsibilities to help the less privileged in our communities. We believe everyone has a right to good education. We thank Bwaila Rotary Club for considering students from poor families,” he said.

On the golf course, Standard Bank team comprising Sheila Chinkhandwe and Bentley Mwenibabau emerged the winner with 48 points.

S. R Nicholas sponsored  team led by Adak Sailesi came second with 45 points while CDH Investment Bank team that had Thakor Sanjay and Sean Raman, was third with 44 points.

Chinkhandwe said her team participated because it was towards a good cause.

“We are proud to be part of this noble cause. We are also happy to have won playing against some good golfers. Let me also thank the greenkeeper for the excellent condition of the golf course,” she said.

The companies that sponsored the tournament included Standard Bank, National Oil Company of Malawi, Umodzi Park, DHN Holdings, S.R Nicholas, Planet Car Hire, Nico General Insurance. Nico Asset Managers, CIC Insurance, Dika Construction Company, Salphar Enterprises, Cas Construction Company, Malawi Defence Force and CDH Investment Bank.
