Blantyre Water Board (BWB) has said the installation of prepaid meters in New Naperi and Mudi, which started last year, is complete and the meters in use.

BWB spokesperson Priscilla Mateyu said in an interview the installation of the prepaid meters took longer than expected because the materials are expensive.Waterboard_prepaid_meter

“It took us this long because the materials that we are using are expensive and as a board to come up with all the materials it was not that simple,” she said.

Mateyu said the entire process of installing the meters in Blantyre will be completed between five and 10 years because they need to source materials to be used in all the areas.

“There is still a lot of work that needs to be done and it is a process that requires time and a lot of expensive resources. We have been facing problems here and there but we are progressing well,” she said.

Mateyu said the prepaid metres will help BWB customers to plan or budget on how much they spend on monthly water bills.
