In a statement released last week, MEC chief elections officer Willie Kalonga says the commission has organised stakeholders’ meetings today to launch the electoral calendar for the by-elections in the constituencies and wards.

According to the revised 2014 by-elections stakeholder calendar, events prior to the by-elections include briefing sessions for district commissioners (DCs) on updates and nomination.

“There will also be training of supervisors and clerks as well as refresher course for quality control managers and camera operators in the constituencies and wards,” reads the statement.

MEC postponed Local Government Elections in the five wards and parliamentary elections in Blantyre North due to death of a candidate while in Thyolo East the elected parliamentarian Peter Mutharika opted for presidency thereby rendering the parliamentary seat vacant.
