The development comes at a time when the school was facing infrastructure challenges with most pupils learning under trees.

Acting archdiocesan secretary for Lilongwe Archdiocese, Charles Videde, said Cadecom intervened after it learnt of the challenges.

Said Videde: “The school only had eight classroom blocks against 1 174 learners; meaning it had an average of 146 learners per classroom. Such overcrowding is detrimental to the attainment of quality education.”

“Only four of 17 teaching staff were accomodated on campus, a situation that contributed to teacher absenteeism.”

He said they solicited funds locally and also received aid from the Japanese government for the construction of the infrastructure.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Japanese Ambassador Shuichiro Nishioka said the donation will help improve the quality of basic education in the district.
