Care Malawi has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to Ntchisi District Health Office (DHO).

In an interview on Thursday, the organisation’s Southern Africa Nutrition Initiative programme officer Hazel Kantayeni said they donated the PPE to enhance the district’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We engaged the DHO to find out their plans and see where we could assist. So, we procured the items,” she said.

Ntchisi district environmental health officer James Mtonga said the items, which included infrared thermometers, hand sanitisers, soap, chlorine and hand-washing facilities, will be distributed to various health facilities in the district.

“Some of our health facilities did not have infrared thermometers,” he said.

Mtonga has since appealed to other partners to emulate Care Malawi’s gesture.

Care Malawi has been implementing the nutrition project for women of reproductive age group and under five children in the district since 2016.

Ntchisi has to date registered 19 Covid-19 cases with one death.
