Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that the Carlsberg Cup semi-finals will be staged next weekend [September 7-8].

Blantyre United, the only civilian team to reach this far, will host Kamuzu Barracks (KB) while Moyale will face Red Lions.

FAM competitions officer Gomezgani Zakazaka said Flames’ decisive 2014 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria to be played during the same weekend, will not have a significant effect on the semi-final matches.

“Out of the four teams that have qualified for the semi-finals, it is only KB who have contributed two players [Dave Banda and Harvey Nkacha] to the national team.

“The rules also state that a team that contributes four players or more can be exempted from games,” said Zakazaka.

Apparently, Nkacha is the competition’s leading scorer with five goals and his absence has the potential to affect his chase for the Golden Boot Award.

Zakazaka also said the organising committee will be meeting later during the week to determine the actual dates and venues of the games.
