During the launch of the one-year sponsorship with Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) at College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex in Blantyre on Friday, Carlsberg Malawi senior brand manager (alcoholics) Twikale Chirwa said they want to promote the game and thank their loyal customers in a special way.

“We have been talking with Mapa about this event for at least three years and it is pleasing that the talks have been fruitfull. We would like to promote this game for Mapa to easily identify talent and reward our loyal customers,” he said.

According to Chirwa, continued sponsorship will depend on the performance of both the players and officials in terms of discipline during this inaugural contest.

Mapa president Chikondi Mbewe said they will do anything possible to safeguard the hard-earned financial support that has come after five years of sponsorship drought from the corporate world.

“We are grateful to the company for ending our sponsorship drought. We will will not let anybody or anything to spoil this good relationship we have made with Special Brew,” Mbewe said.

The tournament, which will run for a month, will start in two weeks at regional level.

Mbewe, who was voted into office last year, said only champions from the Southern, Eastern, Central and Northern Region will qualify for the national finals. He said at regional level, only runners up, third placed and fourth positioned teams will receive prizes. n
