Carlsberg Malawi, official sponsors of the Flames, yesterday stepped up the hype for Saturday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zimbabwe by donating 30 travelling bags and T-shirts to the players.

“As official sponsors, we are just fulfilling our obligation . We would like the team to look presentable.

“On Friday we will run an activation in some of the drinking joints around Blantyre where patrons who will buy between five and 10 bottles of Carlsberg Green will be rewarded with an entry ticket for the match,” said Twikale Chirwa, Carlsberg Malawi’s senior brands manager (alcoholics).

He also said Carlsberg will give out regalia to the fans as part of the campaign to build the hype for the game.

Flames captain Joseph Kamwendo thanked Carlsberg for the gesture saying they have always been there for the Flames.

“We can only reward you through good results and I promise that we will do well on Saturday so that we can take the Carlsberg brand forward,” said the Flames skipper who also asked other companies to emulate Carlsberg’s gesture.

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu said without Carlsberg’s support, the Flames would not have been able to take part in international competitions.

“I remember we almost pulled out of the previous [Afcon] campaign and it took Carlsberg’s intervention to bail us out. We have a strong partner in Carlsberg because it’s not easy for companies to fork out money in such tough economic times and we are declaring war on Saturday as a dedication to Carlsberg,” he said. n
