Case against same sex relationships

First I understand that every human being has the right to do whatever she/he wants. This right did not start with any organisation, but God who created man and woman in His own image. God gave them free will to choose between right and wrong. When God created food plants for the first recorded couple, He only told them not to eat the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

As a designer, God knew what would benefit human kind and that which would not. Even when He gave them that one command, He did not force them to obey it. Adam and Eve were free to eat against God’s own command. Only that if they did it, they were going to die! And indeed they died both spiritually and physically.

As sin increased upon the earth, people began to sin so much that God was grieved that He had made man upon the earth. The case of floods in the days of Noah shows how much God was grieved because of people’s sins. I know that some do not believe this Biblical story. But as Christians we believe that this was God’s full expression against sin. In the case of Sodom and Gomorrah, as usual people sinned against God.

This time, they ‘legalised’ same sex marriages. There was no homophobia as proponents call it. However, God was more homophobic, I think. God did not hesitate to send fire and brimstone upon them for all sins committed, including homosexual practices. The Lord Jesus authenticates these Genesis stories in His teaching in the Gospels. Jesus did approve of these stories- that indeed God did punish Sodom and Gomorrah because of sin, which included homosexuality.

The teaching of the New Testament also teaches against the practice of homosexuality. “Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the Kingdom of God.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 reads: “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.” This clear teaching of Scripture cannot be denied nor rejected by any people that follow God.

No true Christian church would stand on the pulpit and declare it is alright to sin against God; nor declare that it is alright to practice homosexuality. What the Bible calls sin shall remain sin even if the whole world said it was not sin! The true Church will never accept and legalise homosexuality.

However, the role of the Church to any person involved in homosexual practices is to teach them God’s word so they can repent and begin to walk with God. The presentation of the Gospel of Jesus does not mean staying silent against sin; any preaching of God’s Word will state the goodness of God and dangers that follow if one does not act according to God’s Word. And this is not being homophobic, but rather calling a spade by its name.
