Castel unveils Shandie in style

The Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) on Saturday was transformed into yellowish sea as Castel Malawi unveiled its latest beer brand on its portfolio, the lemon flavoured Shandie.

For Castel Malawi managing director Herve Milhard, it was almost a moment of victory as he reflected on the challenges that the company has sailed through in the last three years, which at some point threatened its closure.

He said as a company, they are proud to have triumphed over the initial challenges they faced which were compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

Castel Malawi brands manager Twikale Chirwa said Shandie Beer, which has an alcohol volume of 2.5 percent, has been introduced to fill the gap on the market as well as a response to the needs of their consumers.

“We have a number of brands on our portfolio, but there was nothing such as Shandie until now. This brand will accommodate a certain section of our consumers, in particular women who are not into the sour brands. It is a beer for special easy moments as you can see by the alcohol volume,” he said.

And to go with the occasion were music performances from various artists headlined by Nigerian youthful artist FireBoy DML. A carefully assembled brigade of local artists, which reflected the urban feel, was on call to spice up the event. Hayze Engola, Piksy, Eunice, Tuno, Leslie and South African-based Onesimus are some of the names who graced the stage.

The events started as early 1pm and there were initial fears of a low turnout as the open BSC ground remained sparsely filled until late afternoon. But at the onset of the evening, the outlook of the event had completely transformed.

The event was jointly organised by Castel Malawi and Entertainers Promotions, who provided the stage, sound and lighting services which added colour to the event.
