The artist, who has enforced his reputation by engaging in several humanitarian work through his personal initiatives, was bestowed with the honour during the institution’s 2018 Cultural Festival held at the University’s campus in Nguludi, Chiradzulu.

In an interview, Fredokiss said the recognition will allow him to take an extra step in reaching out to less-privileged youths.

“On a personal level, it really feels great to be recognised for the contribution that you have made to your society. At the same time, it is a reminder to all of us that the solutions to most of our problems as youths are within ourselves,” he said.

Through the Fredokiss Scholarship under his Ghetto Shoulder Initiative, the artist has secured school fees for under-privileged students who have found their way back to school. Recently, he also took the lead in wooing his peers to register to vote in next year’s elections.

Head of the Anthropology Department at CU, Jarmaine Issah Saidi, said the institution decided to honour Fredokiss because of the way he has used his brand as an artist to impact positive change among his peers outside music.

He said: “He has used his influence to champion a charge on the challenges that most youths are facing in the country. He has tackled poverty, joblessness and many other relevant issues. He has almost become the voice of the youth which was missing for long.”

Saidi said one thing that has made the artist stand out from his peers is his insistence on instilling a spirit of hard work among his fellow youths.

“He is an example of someone who worked very hard to earn recognition in society. He has shown that all it takes for one to make it is to work hard, an element which is lacking in most of our youths,” he said.

The CU Cultural Festival is hosted every second semester to raise awareness and understanding of cultural differences and similarities to foster a healthy coexistence despite cultural differences. n
