The Roman Catholic Church has partnered with Airtel Limited in an SMS campaign aimed at spreading the scriptures to members of the church.

Airtel Brand and Communication Manager Isabel Kachinjika confirmed in an interview that the Catholic Church and Airtel have gone into partnership to help those who cannot manage to go to church every day to access scriptures.

“What one needs to do is to SMS the word Chitsime to 51992 and they will receive that day’s reading in their phone,” said Kachinjika.

According to Kachinjika the Catholic Church and Airtel realise that many people need to access the scriptures everyday but because of the nature of their jobs cannot go to church.

“Many people these days are conscious with the scriptures and since we have the facility to help in dissemination of messages we thought it was wise to go into this partnership with the Catholics,” she added.

Parish Priest for Banja Loyera Parish in Chilinde Father Chatambalala last Sunday encouraged the Catholics to make use of the facility.

“Most of us who reside in towns are very busy people and by just texting an SMS we will be able to get the scriptures for that particular day. This will not only enrich our lives but it will bring us closer to God,” said Chatambalala.
