CCAP against CDs for live performances

Choral groups from Blantyre City Presbytery of the CCAP Blantyre Synod have been advised to minimise the use of Compact Discs (CDs) during live performances.

Speaking at the presbytery’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Saturday, Reverend Enos Muhiwa said using CDs during live shows dilutes the meaning of the spirituals.

Muhiwa, who is director of music in the presbytery, also disclosed that the tendency breeds laziness among choristers.

“With the coming of the CDs, most choirs, especially choirmasters/mistresses, copy foreign songs and translate them in our language instead of composing their own songs to reflect the reality of our spirituality,” he observed.

Muhiwa also expressed concern over failure by the choral groups to remit their registration contributions to his office.

He advised the choral groups to start remitting their registration contributions to enable the office fulfill its obligations.
