He said: “Through the social welfare office at district level, we did an assessment to identify the students who were really struggling to pay school fees.”

Mlia said CCJP was grateful to financiers of the initiative, namely, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the European Union (EU) who provided K2 million ($3,571) through CCJP’s Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (Gewe) project.

Willie Maulana, head teacher at Mirole Community Day Secondary School,  commended Chikwawa CCJP for reaching out to vulnerable students at his school.

He said: “On behalf of the school, I am very grateful to receive the cheque worth K277 000 ($405) which will enable our girls who were dropping out of school to continue with their education.”
