Celebrating Christmas with Christ

People throughout the world on December 25 celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ. Churches and para-religious organisations lined up various activities from December 21 to 26. JAMES CHIMPWEYA talked to various church leaders to hear from them, what they organised for members during this festive season.

Reverend Alex Maulana, general secretary of the Blantyre Synod of the CCAP said as the synod, they did not have programmes for the church but left the responsibility to each congregation to organise its activities.

Said Maulana: “We have given our staff a Christmas holiday, allowing them to celebrate with their family members and friends. For prayers, each congregation make own programmes,” said Maulana.

Blantyre City presbytery clerk Reverend Baxton Maulidi said congregation within his jurisdiction organised Christmas Cantata where choirs from all the congregations were expected to gather together to sing for the glory of God the birth of the Saviour.

Reverend Masauko Mbolembole of Saint Michael and All Angels and Reverend Enos Muhiwa of the Ndirande Kachere congregation in Blantyre also organised week-long prayers in their churches from Monday December 21 to the Christmas Day.

Ndirande Kachere congregation had Christmas Bus Ride to Mozambique on Saturday.

On Christmas Day, the youth performed a play depicting the birth of Jesus Christ, while members would be exchanging gifts and visits in their respective homes after church prayers.
