Lilongwe businessperson Lefnos Chigamula has unveiled a K750 000 sponsorship for the 2016 Central Region Pool League (CRPL).

Chigamula said he decided to sponsor the league after noting that it has for some time, been running without sponsorship.

He said: “The Central Region Pool League has been struggling to find stable sponsorship for such a long time and as someone who loves the game, I thought it proper to come in and assist.

“We need to support youngsters to play the game they like. Through such sponsorship, we are helping the youth to focus on the sport rather than other harmful behaviours.”

He did not rule out coming back to sponsor the league in 2017.

“I have big plans for the game of pool in the Central Region. My first chunk is K750 000, but depending on the outcome, I plan to invest big and sponsor the league annually,” said Chigamula.

A relieved CRPL chairperson Franco Banda thanked Chigamula for the sponsorship.

“This is great news for every team in the Central Region. The going has been tough for teams. The league depended on clubs’ affiliation fees to run. With this sponsorship, we expect an increase in teams participating in the league. We need more people like Chigamula to invest in sport,” said Banda

Chigamula also sponsored a K300 000 Lilongwe Pool tournament last week.
