Centre, South register increase in Presidential Pool Cup

Pool leagues in the Centre and South have registered increase in participants in the Under-23 and Ladies Singles Presidential Cup.

According to Central Region Pool League (CRPL) general secretary William Nyirenda, the region has registered 23 Under-23 teams and 18 ladies while last year, there were 20 Under-23 teams and 16 ladies.

Southern Region Pool League (SRPL) chairperson Sam Phiri said the league has registered eight Under-23 teams and six ladies whereas last season they had six Under- 23 teams and five ladies.

Malawi Pool Association of Malawi (Mapa) general secretary Saulosi Thindwa said Northern and Eastern regions are yet to submit their lists.

“We are also playing league games, so we have decided to play Presidential Cup games in the morning from 11am to give chance to players to play for their senior teams in the afternoon,” said Nyirenda

Ladies Singles national champion Funny Chimwala has said she is set to defend the title.

Meanwhile, S5 are early pacesetters of the Central Region Pool League (CRPL) campaign courtesy of goal difference over last year’s runners-up, Treatment.

Both teams have six points from two games and S5 has superior aggregate of four over Treatment.

Sunset is on third position with four points from two games.

Kamuzu Barracks, Red Sea, Mango, Michigan, JTI, Gulliver, Top Level, Siege, Umqombothi and Hakuna Matata are trailing Sunset as they share a three-point tie.
