Cezobal beat Northern Zone Basketball League (Nozobal) 89-56 in their first game to set the campaign. They finally stunned defending champions Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) 90-53 to win the championship.

Sozobal beat Nozobal 79-62 to finish second.

It was a double celebration for Cezobal after their player, Vincent Ngosi, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Ngosi finished with the highest points, 23, and 14 rebounds in the final game.

“The win means a lot to us. Our boys had put in a lot of work throughout the season. Cezobal can now reclaim the title of basketball powerhouse in Malawi.

“We had the best team and the best coach [Paul Chinchen] on that court. We are now going to continue building around our young players, so we can develop further,” said Cezobal interim chairperson Mpepho Khama.

Sozobal chairperson Hamlet Kamtengeni blamed the loss on poor preparations because of continuous rains.

Sponsors FMB, thanked all the teams for the talent shown during the event.

The event was graced by Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) president Oscar Kanjala and Malawi National Sports Council (MNSC) executive secretary George Jana.

Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) was represented at the event by technical adviser Obed Mbudo and national head coach Blair Phiri.
