President Lazarus Chakwera is in Nairobi, Kenya to undertake official engagements, including signing of a bilateral agreement with his host President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The visit follows the two leaders’ agreement when they met in the United Kingdom in July on the need to “urgently” revive the Malawi-Kenya Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC).

Speaking before departure at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe yesterday, Chakwera said the consolidation of relations between Malawi and Kenya is a mark of another level of cooperation in the areas of trade and diplomacy.

The President said: “The consolidation of our relationship will be of benefit to Malawi in many ways, not just the exchange of our people’s goods and services.

“In these days we are not only consolidating bilateral, but multilateral relationships because friends of Kenya are also friends of Malawi.”

And a statement from the State House press office said Kenya is one of Malawi’s strong allies in East Africa that can assist Malawi to penetrate the region’s market.

It said Chakwera will also be the special guest at the 2021 Mashujaa (Heroes) Day celebrations to be held at Wang’guru Stadium in Kirinyanga County today.

The statement said the President will also deliver a keynote address at the Malawi Investment Forum on Thursday besides holding a meeting with representatives of the Malawi Diaspora in Kenya.

From Kenya, Chakwera will head to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to attend the Fifth Global Sustainable Technology and Innovation Community (G-STIC) scheduled to take place from October 24 to 27 where he will also be the keynote speaker.

The President will thereafter proceed to Scotland in the United Kingdom to participate at the high level segment of the 26th Session of Conference of Parties (CoP 26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change from October 31 to November 12.
