Chakwera to attend VP lecture

President Lazarus Chakwera iwill this evening to attend Vice-President Saulos Chilima’s public lecture titled The Mindset Change at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.

Presidential press secretary Brian Banda, in a statement issued yesterday, said the President is expected to arrive at the venue at 6pm.

Reads the statement in part: “His Excellency the State President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera will this Friday the 30th October 2020 attend a public lecture entitled The Mindset Change by Vice-President Dr Saulos Chilima at the Bingu International Convention Centre.”

In an earlier interview with The Nation, Office of the Vice-President spokesperson Pilirani Phiri said all was set for the public lecture and that the Veep was ready.

He said: “People should expect an exciting event. The lecture will focus on mindset change as a precursor to personal development, national development and smooth implementation of the public sector reforms.”

Phiri said with Covid-19, entry to the public lecture will be restricted and all recommended preventive measures will be followed.

“I know that everyone will be eagerly waiting to hear what the Vice-President will deliver. Those who attended the first lecture in Zomba a few years ago will testify it was an eye-opening lecture,” he said.

Phiri said those who cannot physically attend can follow the lecture live on Zodiak Broadcasting Station channels and on Mibawa Television.

According to a programme of event we have seen, University of Malawi’s associate professor of public administration Dr Asiyatu Chiweza will be the convenor.

After the lecture, the Veep will take questions from the audience. This will be Chilima’s second public lecture as Vice-President. The first one, titled Moral Decadence was delivered at Chancellor College Great Hall in 2018 when he was Vice-President in the former Democratic Progressive Party administration.
