Chambo Fisheries and Mapeto DWHS have booked quarter-final slots in the FMB Twenty-20 (T-20) Cricket Tournament after seeing off Polypack and Sun ‘n Sand, respectively, at Oriental Cricket Club (OCC) in Blantyre on Sunday.

Chambo outclassed last year’s champions Polypack by 50 runs. They made 175 runs against Polypack’s 125, thanks to the individual brilliance of their batsman Soheil Saleh and bowler Shiraz Zaveri, who made 33 runs and took three wickets, respectively.

Mapeto relied on the outstanding performance of Arshad Wadiwala and Llyas Bhiku, who made 41 runs and claimed four wickets in that order to boot out Sun ‘N’ Sand from the competition by six wickets.

Sun ‘N’ Sand batted first to score 139 runs in the entire 20-overs and lost four wickets along the way, but Mapeto successfully chased down the runs in just 17-overs.

“We witnessed exciting cricket last weekend. We even expect more exciting games as the contest gets into the quarter-final this Sunday,” said the competition’s organiser and MSC sports director Abdul Wahab Jagot.

Nine teams from Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) and one from OCC joined the month-long competition with brand names of Mapeto DWHS, Polypack, Pharmanova, Victoria Forex, EazyPack, Siku, Sukam, Fargo, Anchor Industries and Chambo Fisheries.

The competition has just experienced a sponsorship boost after FMB increased the package from last year’s K1 million to K2.5 million this year.
