G and G Boxing Promotions has reshaped their plans towards a rematch bout, which was expected to be held on September 28 between Laston Kayira and Malani Kayuni.

The Mzuzu-based boxing promoters have instead replaced Kayuni with lightweight Alex Chimbalanga from Lilongwe to fight with Kayira in a six-round semi-final bout to be held at the same venue, Obrigado Leisure Park in Mzuzu, this Sunday.

“We have scheduled to have the rematch bout September 28 because Kayuni is injured. He cannot fight in the situation he is. He has some cuts, which he developed after a car accident, as such we have resolved to give him more time to rest. Looking at the pressure from boxing fans, we have thought of roping in Alex Chimbalanga to fight with Kayira this coming Sunday,” said G and G Boxing Promotion director Pacharo Makumi Gondwe yesterday.

Kayira opted for a rematch bout after belittling his earlier defeat from Kayuni in August this year.

Gondwe said the bout will still incorporate other supporting fights such as Mwayi Kamanga, Amos Kayira, Thipa, Patrick Kayira, Secret Chirwa and Israel.
