Both Chanza and Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa confirmed the development in separate interviews on Tuesday.

Nankhumwa said the appointment offer letter was sent to Chanza last week and government was waiting for him to append his signature on the contract once he agrees with the terms and conditions.

The minister also disclosed that Nandolo’s suspension had been lifted and he has since been redeployed to the Malawi Gaming Board as one of the directors.

On his part, Chanza, who was principal secretary (PS) ll at Ministry of Labour before being appointed as acting CEO, expressed gratitude to government for entrusting him with responsibility.

“The onus is now on me to show what I am capable of doing for the city as well as the government. But above all, I thank God for this. Surely, the appointment did not just come,” said Chanza, who is an industrial relations specialist.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Commerce (industrial psychology) and a Master of Arts degree in Labour Relations and Human Resources, among other academic qualifications.

Chanza is a seasoned local government administrator having joined government as local government officer in 1995.
