Lightweight boxer Salimu Chazama and Israel Kammwamba clash in a title bout today at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.

Chazama, who lost the national lightweight belt to Kammwamba in 2019,  is seeking to reclaim it.

In an interview, the Malawi Defence Force boxer said Kammwamba is overrated and it is time to end his career.

He said: “It’s not like he is a good boxer. Last time, I lost the belt to him because I was not in shape. I had just returned from a peace keeping mission in DRC. I did not have enough time to train.

Kammwamba: He is not a threat

“This time, I am in great shape and have trained hard. I can assure my fans that I will take the belt back.”

In reaction, Kammwamba said his opponent is past his prime.

“He is not a threat. He should just retire. He [Chazama] is not my match. He is past his best. I will once again humiliate him,” he said.

Kammwamba knocked out Chazama in the fifth round.

This fight has been organised by Superior Boxing Promotions.

In supporting bouts, Yohane Banda will fight Horace Kazembe, Tinkhani Kamanga will face Clifford Atafu while Yobe Kamyonya takes on Damiano Mphepo.
