The two boxers had their initial bout on May 11, 2014. Then, Chazama was declared winner on points by the judges but the result was narrowed to a controversial draw following boos from the boxing fans, who were not satisfied with the initial declaration.

This followed an intervention from the Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) officials, who apart from declaring the stalemate, suspended boxing judge Cassim Makwinja for two months for making an error when calculating points.

Chimaliza said after the draw, the two boxers and boxing fans have been pestering the New Dawn Promotions to organise a rematch.

“This is now time to clear the mist on the around their controversial fight,” said Chimaliza. “This is a chance for the two pugilists to prove to Malawian who is the best between them.”

Chimaliza added that the calls for the rematch have also been motivated by Chazama’s recent technical knockout win over Bright Mdoka on October 26. Then, Chazama floored Mdoka in the second-round of their eight-round bout.

The winner of the impending rematch, whose theme is ‘sharing boxes of gifts, is expected to take on Osgood Kayuni in title fight early 2015.
