Chibuku Road to Fame takes off

Musicians Union of Malawi, in conjunction with Chibuku Products Limited (CPL), on Saturday launched this year’s edition of the Chibuku Road to Fame music competition at BAT grounds in Blantyre.

For this year’s edition, CPL has doubled the prize money to K1 million (US$2 381) which makes the total contribution to the competition to K15 million (US$35 714).

Performing at the launch was Skeffa Chimoto and the Real Sounds who,despite the low patronage, gave an emphatic performance.

Skeffa mesmerised fans with performance of his popular tracks such as Dalitsani Okondedwa, Chinamuluma Chakudaand NabolaMoyo.

Real Sounds member Dan Muyaya also gave a heart-throbbing performance of some of his songs such as AlekeniAneneand Reggae Music.

In an interview at the event, coordinator of the competition Young Chilaga expressed gratitude to CPL for its unwavering support towards the promotion of Malawian music.

“We do not take this contribution for granted, we hope this competition will help unearth raw talent and also take music to a new level,” said Chilaga.

CPL marketing manager Timothy Sukali said they believe the competition will promote Malawian music and help find its identity.
