Chibvunde to sponsor league in LL-Msinja

Former Football Association of Malawi executive member McCollins Chibvunde has resurfaced in football circles.

Chibvunde, who took a break from the game to concentrate on his studies, is launching a K550 000 (about $2 200) football league in his home—Lilongwe Msinja North Constituency—that covers areas within Bunda and Mitundu.

“Following discussions I had with all teams in the area, it was agreed that since the league will be the first of its kind, the sponsorship money should be to that tune,” said Chibvunde.

He, however, dismissed suggestions that the move is political.

“Of course, many people think it will be a weapon or campaign tool for 2014 parliamentary elections in the area. However, to the contrary, our family has hatched a dream of forming an NGO to be called Naso Centre for Sustainable Livelihoods for the area in honour of our late grand mother.

The main objective is to build sustainable livelihoods for the poor and disadvantaged communities in Mitundu and Bunda areas,” said Chibvunde.

He said the league will be launched next month.
