Failed the examination: Gabadhno

Chichiri Secondary School has removed from public viewing this year’s Malawi Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) results due to pressure over the school’s football star student Gabadinho Mhango’s results.

Unconfirmed reports suggest Gabadinho, who is in South Africa negotiating with Bloemfontein Celtic over his messed up signing, has failed the examinations, with a single pass in Biology.

But the school’s head teacher Emmie Chiwala on Monday said they could only reveal Gabadinho’s results with his consent.

“This year our pass percentage is 96 percent. Last year, it was 99 percent as only two girls failed. This year six girls and four boys have failed. One hundred and forty-six boys and 123 girls entered [but] 143 boys and 120 girls sat for the examinations. Absentees were three girls and three boys. One hundred and thirty-nine boys and 114 girls passed,” said Chiwala.

Bullets general secretary Higger Mkandawire said the school authorities had not communicated to the club Gabadinho’s results.

Last year, Bullets executive committee came under fire when it emerged that they were unaware that Gabadinho had not sat for JCE examinations.

Gabadinho, who is embroiled in a damaging age cheating allegations, is the Flames hottest prospect and reigning Malawi Player of the Year.
