Paul Chidale and Sue Makin stood head and shoulders above a field of 76 golfers when they emerged winners of the inaugural Sparc System Golf Tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club on Saturday.
It could not have been sweeter for the three-handicapped Chidale who was also celebrating the birth of his first-born daughter.
“It is amazing that the feat comes after the birth of my daughter and just weeks after relocating to the Capital City and I am very excited. I thank the sponsors for hosting such a wonderful tournament,” said Chidale who registered 40 points.
He had two birdies, a bogey and six pars on front nine while on the back nine he had two bogeys and six pars.
His runner-up was AdakiSailesi with a score of 38 points while Ash Godambe was third on 37 points.
Herbert Rwamibazi was nearest to the pin while Medson Roka had the longest drive.
In the women’s category, Makin came tops with 35 points. She also had the longest drive on hole number 13.
Her runner-up was Sandra Komakech who counted out JochebedMpanga.
The winners were rewarded with trophies and shopping vouchers ranging from K10 000 to K50 000.
Sparc Systems managing director Wisely Phiri said the inaugural tournament in Lilongwe was organised to interact with existing and potential customers.
“We wanted to use the tournament as a platform so that they know more about our services and thank them for their support. We have our head office in Blantyre and more recently we have opened branches in Lilongwe and Rwanda.
“We have been encouraged by the response today, a field of 76 golfers was beyond our expectations and we will turn it [the tournament] into an annual event,” he said.
